Utility Contracts - Stand & Deliver

The practice of utility companies operating a system of tying people into contracts, of which the average consumer has no idea of their existence and which they have to contract out is a travesty. The way they enforce them is even worse, this system should be completely overhauled and an opt-in process installed and with the huge number of complaints, the government should have done something about this practice.

It should now be compulsory for companies, if they have a contract system, to inform us when that contract needs renewing, making it quite clear what rates are being applied. Many utility companies fail to meet acceptable service levels and they should be required to clearly state how contracts can be terminated. It should also be up to the company to offer suitable terms and satisfactory service, to keep their customers, this would eliminate the crass service and attitude which prevails today.

Luckily the internet has arrived and most of these luddite services will get the sort of exposure that they deserve once the public realise they can air their grievances to a worldwide audience. It's time these companies held their hands up and started delivering the service they make us pay for.
